Chacra 'Lunita' pinot noir 2021
Regular price €47,30Bodegas Chacra is located in the Río Negro Valley in Patagonia, a unique wine region at the southernmost tip of Argentina. The estate was founded in 2004 by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta (from the family behind the iconic Sassicaia in Tuscany) with the ambition of producing exceptional pinot noir. The vineyards are planted with ungrafted, massal-selection vines and are managed organically and biodynamically. Thanks to the cool climate, clean air, and poor, sandy soils, the pinot noir here develops a rare combination of elegance, finesse, and character.
Lunita comes from a tiny, pre-phylloxera vineyard of 1.5 hectares in the center of Bodegas Chacra’s valley. The very old, ungrafted vines have been carefully revitalized over the past 13 years. The soil is a balanced mix of limestone, sandstone, and clay. Originally, the grapes from this vineyard went into Barda, but since the vines regained their perfect balance, Lunita is vinified separately.
The grapes are hand-harvested early in the morning and fermented whole-cluster in open cement tanks. Fermentation is done by infusion, without extraction or concentration, resulting in a refined and elegant style. 50% of the wine is aged in used French oak, and 50% in cement for 11 months. The wine is organically and biodynamically cultivated, completely natural, and unfiltered.
Lunita expresses the purest form of Patagonian pinot noir: precise, refined, with the earthy minerality characteristic of great pinot noirs.
