Virna Borgogno

In the heart of the Langhe, the most prestigious wine region of Piedmont, lies the picturesque village of Barolo. Here you will find the Virna wine estate, a family business with a rich history and a modern vision of winemaking.

The Borgogno family, descendants of one of the most renowned families in the Langhe, has managed the winery since it was founded in 1950 by Enrico Borgogno. Today, the estate is managed by sisters Virna and Ivana Borgogno. Virna, the first woman in Italy to graduate in oenology and oenological techniques, joined her father Lodovico in the cellar in 1988. Ivana is in charge of the administrative and marketing activities. In 2001, the estate was given a new face with the introduction of the 'Virna' logo, a tribute to the prominent role of women within the company.

The estate covers around 10 hectares in the most prestigious areas of Barolo, including the Cannubi, Sarmassa and Preda vineyards in Barolo itself. The classic Barolo wine 'Noi' is produced from grapes from plots in Novello, Monforte and La Morra. Virna's wines largely follow the traditional Langhe method, with élevage in large oak barrels for the Barolo 'Noi' and both large barrels and tonneaux for the Cannubi and Sarmassa crus.

The Borgogno family’s vineyards date back to 1720 and reflect age-old traditions combined with innovative winemaking techniques. The Virna winery is committed to sustainability and has joined The Green Experience, an alliance that promotes sustainable and environmentally friendly viticulture. This approach, born in the Langhe hills, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, protects the soil’s biodiversity and natural resources, and helps preserve the region’s unique character.

At Virna, quality comes first, with respect for tradition and a vision of the future. Each bottle reflects the passion and dedication of a family that has worked in harmony with nature for generations. Discover these fine wines and experience the purity and distinguished power of Barolo.
