Virna Borgogno Barolo 'Cannubi' 2020
Regular price €68,70Cannubi is without a doubt one of the most legendary crus in Barolo – and anyone who tastes a bottle of Virna Borgogno will immediately understand why. This Barolo comes from the historic Cannubi Boschis parcel, where the Nebbiolo grows on clay and chalky marl with layers of sand. This unique soil, combined with a south-eastern location at 250 meters altitude, makes for a wine with refinement, power and ageing potential.
The wine undergoes traditional vinification, with a maceration of about 10 days, then matures for 18 months in 300 and 500 litre tonneaux. It is bottled without filtration, followed by a further year of rest in the bottle before being marketed.
In the glass, this Barolo is ruby red, with a refined and layered aroma of roses, truffle, herbs and subtle wood. On the palate, it starts elegant and silky, but gains depth and complexity as it breathes. The long, harmonious finish predicts that this wine has many years ahead of it.
A top cru for lovers of classic, terroir-driven Barolo with a particularly fine structure. Ideally served at 16°C in a large glass and preferably decanted in advance (in its youth), perfect to enjoy now or to let mature further.
