Madeira is an island belonging to Portugal located in the Atlantic Ocean. It is located 750 kilometers west of Africa and 850 kilometers from the southern coast of Portugal. The island is very unique due to its different soil types and also climatic changes during the different seasons. The harvest is done completely manually and this over several weeks (between mid-August and mid-October). The grapes are pressed, followed by fermentation in stainless steel vats. The fermentation stops after 7 days by adding pure alcohol. Afterwards there is a warming between 40 and 50 degrees for 3 months. Afterwards, the blend from the different plots goes into wooden barrels for 3 years. Afterwards it is bottled. Golden in our glass with dried fruit in the nose as in grapes, figs and nuts. In the mouth we have a good balance between acidity, soft-sweet and flavors of apple, raisins and walnuts. The etymology of the name rainwater comes from the fact that once the barrels were left on the dock in the rain and the barrels got wet and the in madeira was diluted in the barrels, making it less sweet, which was the original style if we had some going back centuries. Serve as an aperitif, with a soft cheese or go crazy and combine with a tonic as a variant of the White Port Tonic. Health!
