It is made from carefully selected wines that travel from the Douro Valley to the lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia after harvest. There, the winemaker chooses only the barrels with the right intensity, structure, and fruit expression.
Smith Woodhouse is a smaller, traditional Port house that has been bottling characterful Ports since 1784. Their focus lies on origin and precision, rather than commercial scale. The foundation of this wine is Quinta da Madalena, deep in the Rio Torto Valley, where the Cima Corgo microclimate ensures ripe fruit and aromatic tension. After blending, the wine ages briefly in oak barrels until the perfect balance between power and softness is reached, with the typical fruitiness of a Ruby.
In the glass, you notice a deep cherry red color. The nose is intense, with dark fruit such as cherries and blackcurrants, subtle floral notes, and a touch of spice. The palate is both firm and fresh, with ripe fruit and a long finish that invites a second glass.
