The Landscape Series from Gabrielskloof are the top wines from the most iconic vineyards on the domain. This syrah comes from a piece of vineyard on the 'Bokkeveld' site, which is characteristic for the hard 'shale' soil. Shale is a relatively cold soil that can retain water very well and therefore produces a very fine style of syrah. Bokkeveld has an ideal South-Eastern orientation, as a result of which a stricter wind blows through the vineyards.
On the nose, this syrah is extremely complex and variegated, from numerous varieties of dark fruit, to aromatic white pepper and mild spices. On the palate, this is the epitome of a powerful red wine in a smooth, refined way. The elegant acidity refreshes the mouth filling and concentration while a present, yet soft tannin structure is the backbone of this great wine. After complete spontaneous fermentation, this wine was matured in 225l and 500l oak barrels for 18 months (only 30% new oak).
