Sanclodio

Bodegas Sanclodio is a wine estate located in the Ribeiro appellation, which is the oldest wine-growing region in Galicia and probably one of the first appellations in the whole of Spain. The estate is located on the site of an old monastery of the same name of French Cistercians who ensured the golden age in the region in the Middle Ages. Until a few years ago, the wine estate was owned by a well-known Spanish film producer 'José Luis Cuerda' who at that time replanted the old 'socalcos' (= vineyard terraces on the hills towards the river) of the steep slopes towards the 'Avia' river. The old grape varieties treixadura, godello and loureira that José Luis planted at that time, now appear to be among the most successful grape varieties of Galicia. For a few years now, the wine estate has been taken over by Carlos Moro, a big man in the Spanish wine landscape, who with his know-how is giving the estate a new start to bring the quality to an even higher and more consistent level. The wine estate covers about 12 hectares and only makes wine from its own vines.
