Bodegas Chacra is located in the Río Negro Valley in Patagonia, a unique wine region in the far south of Argentina. The estate was founded in 2004 by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta (from the family behind the iconic Sassicaia in Tuscany) with the ambition to produce exceptional pinot noir. The vineyards are planted with ungrafted vines from massal selection and are farmed organically and biodynamically. Thanks to the cool climate and the poor, sandy soils, this is a place where pinot noir develops a rare combination of elegance, finesse, and character.

Barda comes from the estate’s youngest pinot noir vines, planted in 1990 on light sandy soils. As with all Chacra vineyards, these vines are entirely ungrafted (original European vitis vinifera) and from massal selection. Yields average just over 2 kilos per plant. Fermentation is slow, at low temperature, in round cement vats using indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged for 11 months, 50% in French oak (15% new) and 50% in cement. It is bottled unfined, unfiltered, and entirely natural.

In the glass, Barda is pure and mineral, with concentrated aromas of red plum and dried raspberry, supported by subtle meatiness and hints of sandalwood. The structure is airy and open, with velvety tannins and a fresh, elegant finish.
