Merayo
In 2010, Pedro Merayo founded Bodegas y Viñedos Merayos, after 20 years dedicated to the recovery and maintenance of his vineyards. The Merayo family, deeply rooted in the Bierzo region, returned to their winemaking traditions at the family estate Finca Miralmonte. With a strong commitment to quality and native grape varieties, Merayo produces wines that reflect the essence of the region. The winery has around 42 hectares of vineyards, mainly planted in the municipality of Valtuille de Abajo. The vineyards are all very old, which is typical of the Bierzo region, all the vines are between 80 and 120 years old, which is exceptional.
The winery is equipped with the latest technology to care for the wine throughout the vinification process. Fermentation usually takes place in stainless steel tanks, which vary greatly in size and can hold up to 200,000 kg of grapes per harvest. The tanks are equipped with automatic temperature control systems that efficiently stabilize the fermentation temperatures. After fermentation in stainless steel, some of the wines are aged, partly or completely, in oak barrels of different origin and capacity.
