Nicolas Joly Clos de la Coulée de Serrant 2021
Regular price €104,60The Clos de la Coulée de Serrant is a wine that comes from a vineyard of 7 hectares, fully south-oriented. The plot, which has served as a vineyard since 1130, is absolutely unique… If only because this vineyard is an appellation in itself and is therefore also a complete 'monopole' of Nicolas Joly. The chenin blanc vines are on average 40 years old and the oldest are already 80 years old. The subsoil consists mainly of quartz and schistes. Due to the age of the sticks and a strict green harvest, yields are reached around 20 hl per hectare; the total production of this wine is therefore very low. Only the best and healthiest grapes are used and everything according to the teachings of biodynamics since 1981. Nicolas uses e.g. a horse to plow among its vines to put less weight on the soil and with the utmost respect for the vines. After harvesting and pressing, the grape juice goes into oak barrels for 8 months, only 5 percent consists of new barrels with regular bâtonnage and a light filtering at the end. This wine is bursting with energy and freshness, gives a grassy nose when young, after a few years scents such as quince and nettle emerge. We therefore recommend decanting this wine half an hour in advance and pouring it into a wide glass. Enjoy tasting! Health!
