This Monthélie 'Les Duresses' is often one of the most underrated wines of Terres de Velle. Les Duresses is a tiny vineyard of 0.17 hectares with an Eastern exposure on one of the most complex soils of the Côte de Beaune. The soil is characterized by its red color thanks to the combination of clay and marl, and is therefore also a cooler piece of vineyard that is picked later in the harvest season. The vineyards here are about 45 years old.
In sight, the concentration in the color is immediately noticeable and also on an aromatic level this wine has a lot of complexity with notes of some ripe red fruit, but also some ripe dark cherries and blackberries. The mouth is very elegant, followed by a complex and intense mouth filling, structure in the tannins and lively acidity. This ensures that this wine can be used with powerful dishes and can also handle some cellar aging.
